Professional Mould Remediation in Blaxland NSW

AAA Mould Removal recently completed a mould remediation make-safe project in Blaxland, NSW, after a leaking bathroom caused hidden water damage beneath the flooring.

Our investigation identified that the moisture intrusion was caused by a failed waterproof membrane, allowing water to migrate beneath the tiled bathroom floor and into the yellow tongue structural flooring. Prolonged moisture exposure created ideal conditions for microbial growth.

If left untreated, hidden moisture can lead to significant structural damage and poor indoor air quality. Learn more about our professional mould removal services here:

Identifying the Moisture Source

Every successful mould remediation project starts by identifying and addressing the source of moisture.

During our inspection we found:

- Failed bathroom waterproof membrane

- Water migration beneath the tiled floor

- Moisture damage to the yellow tongue flooring

- Localised mould growth caused by prolonged moisture exposure

Without repairing the moisture source, mould will eventually return regardless of how well the visible contamination is cleaned.

This is similar to another project we completed where a waterproof membrane failure caused hidden mould contamination:

Our Professional Mould Remediation Process

Following the principles of the ANSI/IICRC S520 Standard for Professional Mould Remediation, our technicians completed a controlled make-safe remediation before the client's planned bathroom renovation.

The works included:

- Moisture assessment

- Detailed visual mould inspection

- Professional mould cleaning

- HEPA vacuuming where required

- Cleaning using professional antimicrobial products

- Encapsulation of the cleaned yellow tongue flooring using Fiberlock IAQ 6000

- Recommendations for permanent remediation during the upcoming renovation

Because the flooring is scheduled to be removed during the renovation, encapsulation provides temporary protection while helping prevent the spread of contamination.

Read another example where mould encapsulation was the most appropriate solution:

Why Encapsulation Was the Right Solution

Encapsulation is not a substitute for repairing the moisture source or replacing damaged building materials.

Instead, it is an effective temporary control measure where demolition is already planned.

After thoroughly cleaning the affected flooring, we applied Fiberlock IAQ 6000 to:

- Stabilise the cleaned surface

- Reduce the release of residual fungal particles

- Protect the substrate until renovation begins

- Maintain a safer indoor environment

Once the bathroom renovation commences, the failed waterproof membrane and damaged flooring can be permanently removed and replaced.

Should You Have Mould Testing?

Many clients ask whether mould testing is necessary.

Professional mould testing can help determine:

- Whether elevated mould spores are present

- Whether indoor air quality has been affected

- The types of mould present

- Whether remediation has been successful following cleaning

Why Professional Mould Removal Matters

DIY mould sprays and bleach rarely solve the underlying problem because they do not address hidden moisture.

Professional mould remediation focuses on:

- Identifying the moisture source

- Controlling contamination

- HEPA filtration

- Safe cleaning methods

- Moisture management

- Long-term prevention

Where water damage has occurred, structural drying may also be required before rebuilding can begin.
